Endometriosis is a chronic disease associated with severe, life-impacting pain during periods, sexual intercourse, bowel movements and/or urination, chronic pelvic pain, abdominal bloating, nausea, fatigue, and sometimes depression, anxiety, and infertility.
The six main symptoms of Endometriosis commonly include:
Painful periods
Pelvic pain and cramping may start before a menstrual period and last for days into it. You also may have lower back and stomach pain. Another name for painful periods is dysmenorrhea.
Pain with sex
Some women may experience pain only during intercourse. Others may experience pain up to 24 to 48 hours after intercourse, or only following intercourse.
Pain with bowel movements or urination
Patients with endometriosis experiencing irregular bowel movements often describe their pain as sharp, like “cuts with razor blades.”
Excessive bleeding
Abnormally heavy or prolonged menstrual periods is a common condition that affects about one-third of women but you shouldn’t have to live with heavy bleeding and pain that disrupts your life.
Bloated Feeling
Gastrointestinal (GI) triad of bloatedness, gassiness, and cramps associated with or without diarrhea and constipation. Generally, these are more pronounced around menstruation.
Infertility
Endometriosis is one of the most common conditions linked to female infertility. 30–50% of of women with endometriosis find it difficult to get pregnant.
